Join us on Monday, July 13th from 6:00-7:30pm for an exciting event in Mason City with Laura Dungan, author of The Archer!
At this event we will:
- Hear from Laura about her long history with Iowa CCI and how this relationship helped inspire parts of her book,
- Enjoy a Reader's Theatre performance highlighting an exciting action with Iowa CCI against the National Pork Producers, and
- Celebrate the local organizing in North Central Iowa that helped lead to Summit withdrawing their CO2 pipeline permits from Worth and Mitchell Counties!
The Archer, a novel featuring CCI, is about:
"Vonnie Ivers, mother of three boys, defies social conditioning, confronts her perpetrator and finds like Dorothy in Oz the way home. She meets a crusty pastor turned community organizer who witnesses Vonnie face inner demons and battle outer ones. Alchemizing fear, rage, joy and pain she turns into a flexible yet strong bow in the hands of the master organizer. In a tale of personal and community triumph, she flings the arrows of a young mother fleeing her war-torn village, and a woman who crossed a river six times. An ode to the power of relationship."
This won’t be your ordinary book event. We plan to use this meeting as an organizing opportunity to build support for CCI’s mission to stop extractive and polluting industries like CO2 pipelines, factory farms & data centers, and fight for a system that works for people, not for profits, politics, or polluters.
