Iowa’s public schools were once top ranked - enough a source of pride to be on our state's quarter! But we’ve fallen behind because of chronic underfunding and poor leadership. Under Governor Kim Reynolds, our public schools are feeling deeper funding cuts through the private school voucher scheme and the dismantling of our Area Education Agencies.

At Iowa CCI, we believe that every child – no matter their zip code, background, race, gender, identity, or ability – has an equal right to a quality public education. That means fully funding our public schools, urban and rural.

To counter Reynolds' agenda and her grip on the state legislature, we are building a grassroots movement, Public School Strong, school district by school district. Talking with our neighbors and supporting our local school boards to take action helps us build momentum in the coming years to reverse the destruction caused by Reynolds and her allies in the state legislature.

Will you add your name to our petition to urge your local school board to publicly stand with us by passing a resolution (see the resolution linked here) calling on the Iowa Governor and state legislature to:

1. fully fund our public schools through State Supplemental Aid (SSA) at a 5% annual increase (adjusted for inflation) and

2. phase out private school vouchers

We are collecting signatures from across Iowa and will organize them by school district. We will work with you to put the resolution on your school board agenda. To do that, 500 signatures are needed in your school district or 10% of the last school board election turnout (whichever is fewer).

Our public schools and the education of our children and grandchildren are worth fighting for. And by building a large, grassroots movement across the state, we will win.

Let’s make Iowa’s public schools #1 again!
