, I was in Minneapolis over the weekend, and something that people kept bringing up was dissatisfaction over their city council and the fact that the 3rd precinct police station is still standing yet vacant over 2 years after the murder of George Floyd.
These sentiments made me think about who elected officials should represent, and our candidate endorsements we announced last week.
It made me think about the fact that as of today, Governor Reynolds has agreed to only one, 1 hour, debate with her challenger Deidre DeJear. Or how Mariannette Miller-Meeks is pushing the bounds on acceptable uses of taxpayer money leading up to the election.
Too many of our current elected officials aren't practicing and engaging in basic functions of democracy - turning down debates, public appearances, and press inquiries so they can instead churn out partisan soundbites and avoid accountability to the people they represent.
That's why I'm excited for our endorsed legislative candidates, our pick for governor (more below), and the November 8 election. We need a change from business-as-usual and the status quo, and these candidates will put our people and planet before politics and party.
We got work to do, but I know we're the ones who can do it. Onward,
Matthew Covington (he/him) Strategic Operations Director
