, Once again, our hearts go out to those hurting from the recent gun violence and attack on the LBGTQIA community. In these times, we need not only thoughts and prayers, but action and a change in dehumanizing rhetoric.
We've sadly seen waves of increased violence amongst communities signaled out by those in power - usually immigrant communities, and recently the trans community with anti-inclusive legislation bubbling up across the country. And part of Gov. Reynolds reelection messaging touting that Iowans know the difference between boys and girls.
This rhetoric has consequences that go deep, far, and wide. One being that by "othering" our neighbors, those in power hope to distract us from their actions that don't uplift all people but rather further entrench their power, at our expense.
Actions (or inaction) like not taking advantage of $30 million to help address the very real challenge of providing childcare to Iowa families. Or the refusal to conduct an environmental impact study of the proposed CO2 pipelines simply because it isn't required by state law.
Like I've said before, it's days like these that make me glad to be in this movement with you and that our work provides me inspiration and motivation. We do this work out of love, rooted in community, and an understanding that it is a marathon, not a sprint.
And we'll be quite active next week building community through our year-end fundraiser (more below!). So just a heads up you'll be getting daily emails from us next week with updates, and no Monday email so be sure to check our social channels for timely updates on the work.
