Iowa DNR: Enforce the Clean Water Act!

We, the undersigned residents of Iowa, value the quality of our water. Our state has some of the dirtiest water in the nation, and an ever-increasing list of impaired waters – over 628. Manure pollution from factory farms is a big contributor to this pollution.

There have been over 800 illegal manure spills since 1995, and out-of-control expansion of factory farms in Iowa. This problem is allowed to continue because of the Iowa DNR’s failure to enforce the Clean Water Act for factory farms.

The DNR must implement the Clean Water Act by:

  • Conducting onsite inspections of all factory farms in Iowa,
  • Requiring all factory farms to get a strong Clean Water Act permit, and
  • Issuing tough fines and penalties to factory farm polluters.
