Dear Iowa DNR and Gov. Reynolds,
The Master Matrix has failed. Created 15 years ago, it has done nothing to stop factory farms from polluting our communities and environment.
Iowa is in a water crisis. We can’t wait any longer. The factory farm application process must be strengthened!
Iowa CCI and Food & Water Watch filed a formal petition so that DNR can reopen Master Matrix rules to make this tool work for everyday Iowans — not just the factory farm industry! We urge you to move forward wtih this rulemaking process.
The Master Matrix needs to:
- Hold factory farms to higher environmental & community standards.
- Make it easier for county Boards of Supervisors to use.
- Consider site-specific issues, like topography & other factors.
- Require further setbacks from homes, schools, waterbodies, etc.
