Senator Grassley, For too long, corporations (both domestic and offshore) have acquired farmland as a speculative investment which undermines rural prosperity and autonomy, exacerbates inequities within and between rural communities, locks out new and beginning farmers, and raises the price of farmland for all. We appreciate your past recognition of the severity of these issues. While recent congressional bills have raised concerns about farmland investments by some foreign governments, these bills fail to take action on the biggest culprits - corporate investors, including pension fund managers, that are consolidating farmland across rural America, and in the Midwest and Mississippi Delta in particular. With more than 40 percent of all US farmland expected to transfer hands in the coming decades, keeping agricultural land under local control and out of the hands of Wall Street speculators is crucial. We are looking to you to stand up for family farmers and rural America by supporting bi-partisan legislation in the 2023 Farm Bill that will regulate and limit the corporate (both domestic and offshore) acquisition and ownership of farmland in the United States. Thank you very much.
